General Overview
Seeking a full-time Medical Technologist to play an important role in the new Translational Research/Molecular Pathology Laboratory. A major focus is to provide patient tumor genotyping services in real-time, to help clinicians identify the most appropriate therapies on a case-by-case basis and in a manner that assures the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex genetic analyses on nucleic acids extracted from diagnostic tumor tissue, using validated testing procedures.
- Interpret and accurately report testing results on patient specimens in a timely manner, assuring quality through the use and evaluation of control samples. Review results for completeness, correctness and consistency. Maintain completed records.
- Perform routine quality control evaluations on assays and reagents to verify analytic accuracy, precision and sensitivity according to established ranges.
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibrations on instruments/equipment according to defined schedules.
- Routinely perform duties and maintain documentation required for accreditation by regulatory agencies. Document corrective actions taken whenever test systems deviate from established levels of performance.
- Demonstrate competency and proficiency in clinical testing as required.
- Assists in the training of personnel in laboratory methods, instrumentation use, quality control procedures and documentation.
- Perform other duties as directed by the laboratory director or manager.
Requirements
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to perform multi-step clinical test procedures in strict accordance with established standard operating procedures, with a high degree of accuracy and reproducibility.
- High level of analytical skills with the ability to distinguish fine gradations of color.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex clinical and instrument problems.
- The ability to work in with a multi-disciplinary team.
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science from an accredited university or college in Medical Technology.
- Successful completion of a clinical internship in a hospital laboratory.
- Certification as Medical Technologist by ASCP (or equivalent national certifying agency) or recent graduate eligible for certification.
